I've tried all sorts of things to correct the issues I have been having with my Ender 3. I am getting blobs and stringing. I was having issues with bed leveling so I purchased and installed the CR Touch and I also purchased the spring steel bed cover. Previously I replaced the stock extruder top mechanism with the aluminum one. Prior to installing the CR Touch, I was having issues with the extruder "clunking" which pointed toward the hot end being too close to the bed. That is 100% resolved and I don't have any more clunking and the extruder seems to be smoothly pushing filament. I have cleaned the hot end a few times recently and even replaced the extruder tip. The problem with my prints now is that they will run smoothly for a bit and then I will get a blob that causes issues. The hot end will jerk as it goes back over the blob and in extreme cases the blob will cause the hot end to actually knock the print loose and then spaghetti. It's been frustrating me for weeks. I've tried loading different firmware, and last night I tried slicing with Prusa instead of Cura but there really hasn't been an improvement. Do you think I need to look at replacing the extruder gear or what other suggestions do you have? I love my Ender 3 but it's been months since I got a really nice print out of it and I have wasted so much filament. Any suggestions you or the community can provide would be great! Thank you.

@@FilamentFriday First, let me say thank you for your quick reply to my question on this issue. I really appreciate the response. I looked at the video you linked to and that isn't exactly what is happening with me. There doesn't seem to be consistency in where the blobs are getting dropped. In your picture it seems like the printer was pausing and dropping the extra filament while it paused. What I have happening is really small blob being dropped at random spots during the printer's movement. It isn't necessarily when the hot end is changing directions but if I watch closely while it is printing, I will see a small blob with some extra strings. If the print is large enough I can usually knock the blob and the extra string off the print while the hot end is travelling to another spot on the print. I just don't want to have to babysit the print. I have had several print attempts lately where blobs get dropped and due to subsequent buildup over the blob, the print has either been knocked completely off the bed or there is a shift in the layer which causes the prints to come out malformed. When I replaced the extruder pinch arm and spring with the Crealty aluminum one I remembered that I did not swap to the new gear and left the stock one. It seems like my problems started not long after this. After watching this video it made me wonder if the extruder gear was the cause of my issue. I dug in my spare parts and found the gear that came with the new extruder pinch arm. I am going to try installing it tonight after work and see if that makes a difference. BTW... I have been using version 5.3 of Cura up to this point.

I printed absolutely fine for the first couple months, no problems. Tried some bigger prints, nothing but issues. It's NOT the filament, it's NOT my retraction settings, it's NOT the esteps. I've spent the last month trying every single calibration tool, every single piece of advice (even the stuff that contradicts the other stuff), and I simply CANNOT print more than 30 minutes without the extruder bucking. But the hot end isn't clogged. I'm so tired of endless stringing, "clogged" hotends, failed prints. I'm about to throw this thing out. I switched to a direct drive dual gear, and despite most people claiming "DD solves it all!", I've had nothing but problems. I think I'll try going back to the longer bowden tube, then it's seriously going in the garbage.

Replace the fan. If you touch the top of the hotend and it warm or hot then the fan is bad. ua-cam.com/video/t0GFl-T7T8k/v-deo.htmlsi=YYvyByryv_NucB0Q

Unfortunately, this could cause more problems than it solves. Heavier load, lots of tubing and cables to handle. A whole lot of power to get all this working. Potentially great loss of quality printing.

You can see the "twist" looks good on the CHEP side but it's a single crease on the blank side. Looks like this tool is just rotating points proportional to their Z rather than subdividing triangles that cross twisting layers like you'd need to do to get a smooth twist.

on the cube you can see a crease on the face that doesn't have any text on it. that's because that face only has two triangles. the faces with text have many more triangles so they get a nice curved surface. to get that nice cuve everywhere, the simple face has to be subdivided a bunch of times. organic models work better because of that.
